My first robot vacuum caused me to go from excitement to resentment as it continued to deteriorate in performance each time I used it. While some features are nice, I do not recommend this as the entry level robot vacuum to invest in.My friends, the Internet, and random strangers all say robot vacuums make your life easier. So finally, I gave in and decided to make the purchase. I went for the Roomba because it’s one of the most established brands and a pioneer in robot vacuum technology. I just wanted something that would save me time from having to vacuum the floors myself. The i2 seemed like the perfect solution to an entry level robot that had the essential features needed. But through continuous use, it became a nightmare. When it comes to cleaning, it picks up stuff relatively well. I have tile flooring so I expected it to do a good job. The edge sweeping brushes were able to pick up most dirt from the corners and it did not miss any spots in the center of my floors. However, from the beginning, I had already noticed that when it transitions to carpet (if you have floor mats), it typically deposits some fuzz or residue that you end up having to pick up later. As an owner of 2 cats, I found this a little bit disappointing as that means I would have to go back through all of the mats and pick up cat fur after each cleaning. As time progressed, the cleaning features continued to degrade. It would leave more residue on the tiles and chunks of fur in random places. Even after I disassembled each part and cleaned the robot thoroughly, it still had issues with fuzz and hair. Cleaning cycles would take longer and longer as the robot seemed confused about the floor mapping and would often go over the same locations multiple times. Before, the Roomba would be able to clean all of the house in one charge, now it always takes two charges to fully complete. As for the ease of cleaning, the robot is easy to take apart and clean the filters, dust bin, rubber brushes, wheel, and edge sweeping brush. However, I’ve found that I have to do this EVERY single time. The robot will report that the waste bin is full. I will lift it up and find that the edge sweeping brush is tangled with hair and the rubber brushes covered with it as well. Guess what the only thing that was pretty much devoid of hair was? The waste bin… It’s pretty much almost always empty after a clean (little bit of dust) and the clump of fur/hair is always stuck at the entrance of the waste bin. So after every cycle, I have to take the whole robot apart and clean each section, which defeats the purpose of having a robot vacuum in the first place. The app and Alexa connection was easy and still is easy to use. There’s not a lot of options in the app as you can only select if you want one pass/two pass/auto. And it creates a map of the cleaning areas but this model does not have the feature to allow you to clean certain rooms or areas. Still, the app is easy to use and the initial setup was simple. It also keeps track of the health of the replaceable parts on the app. However, it tracks based off of hours of usage so it’s really up to you to determine if it’s time to replace certain parts. Connecting it to Alexa and using the voice command to activate the Roomba is easy as well (often my preferred way to get my Roomba to start).Pricing is fair….if this product worked as intended. For an entry level robot vacuum, I did not expect much. However, I did expect to clean my floors and save me time. It wasn’t able to accomplish that. Instead, I paid $200 for a robot that doesn’t fully clean and requires me to spend a bunch of time cleaning/emptying it after each cleaning cycle. At this price, there are many other options out there that can do better. Do your research and find out what’s important to you. If you want less maintenance, I don’t recommend this.Overall, I’m pretty disappointed in this product because it fails to deliver on the features it promises. Most of the failures are related to poor hardware design. And so, I will be choosing a different brand for my next robot vacuum

We have a very hairy dog and cat who shed their fur all over our house, and this vacuum has been essential! We use this every day to keep our carpet and wood floors clean. It vacuums in neat rows, and gets in all the corners. The battery life is long enough to do my entire downstairs level, and it goes back to its charging port on it’s own. We’ve set the automatic cleaning schedule to make sure it gets done every day. Taking off one star because it is quite loud — but the app lets you start cleaning when you’re not at home so we don’t have to hear it. Overall would recommend for a lower cost option!

Bought this after reading wirecutters recommendation for best vacuum on the market – couldn’t believe how much cheaper it was compared to other models and somehow it was considered the best? Can confirm after having it for two months now that it is one of the best things I could’ve bought en for my home and for my mental health. I run it twice a day and it’s insane how clean it keeps my floors with two large breed dogs. My previous robot vacuum would just push the hair around – not this guy! I do think this model is superior to other roomba models as I have friends who have roombas who aren’t impressed. This one exceeded my expectations!

Scheduling is good. Suction and cleanup is fine, given the small motor. Not so good is the mapping. Machine had hard time going to places and remembering where it went already. Also not fully useable in my living room where chairs bottoms have horizontal metal feet. Roomba had hard time going over those, and if it did, had hard time getting out of under the chairs.Carpets also not good.Works good on tiles and hardwood floors.

I recently purchased the iRobot Roomba i4 Robot Vacuum, and I am absolutely thrilled with its performance! This little marvel has completely transformed the way I approach house cleaning. The standout feature of the Roomba i4 is its incredible suction power. It effortlessly picks up dust, dirt, and even pet hair from various surfaces throughout my home. The powerful suction ensures that every nook and cranny is thoroughly cleaned, leaving my floors spotless and my carpets looking refreshed. But what truly sets the Roomba i4 apart is its impressive cleaning results. With its intelligent mapping technology, it navigates seamlessly around obstacles, under furniture, and along edges, ensuring that every inch of my home receives the attention it deserves. I was amazed at how it tackled tricky areas and hard-to-reach spots, leaving them just as clean as the open spaces. The convenience factor cannot be understated either. The iRobot Home app allows me to schedule cleaning sessions, monitor its progress, and even control the Roomba i4 remotely. It’s like having a diligent little cleaning assistant that I can rely on whenever I need.In a nutshell, the iRobot Roomba i4 Robot Vacuum has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Its exceptional suction power and remarkable cleaning results have made it an indispensable addition to my household. If you’re looking for a hassle-free and efficient way to keep your floors immaculate, I wholeheartedly recommend the Roomba i4. It’s a game-changer!Kudos to iRobot for creating such a fantastic product that truly delivers on its promises. This purchase has made my life easier and my home cleaner – I couldn’t be happier!

The product itself is great but had an issue when registering the device. We followed the registration instructions but were taken to a scam website that asked for credit card information to verify purchase. We wanted to share to prevent this issue for other buyers.

Overall very happy with the upgrade over our old Roomba that’s been with us for years. There have been a few issues however compared to the old Roomba. This one has a more difficult time with the dining chairs. It will go under the table and get stuck for a long time, not being able to find its way out from all the chair legs. The old Roomba did this as well, but could get out faster. The other issue is uneven transitions. Our main living area is hardwood and two rooms off the main room are concrete. The old Roomba would see the transition and not go over it. The new i4 will go over into the room, but then can’t get back and will then be locked in that room until it gives up. I’ve solved this by purchasing more Virtual Wall towers and that has worked well. I wish there was a setting that makes the i4 see those transitions like stairs and not go over them.On a positive note, the app is great – you can kick off a cleaning cycle from anywhere, the self-docking works better. The increased suction is great. The mapping feature is really impressive – it helped to put up all the dining chairs for the mapping run. The new bin design holds more and works better with cat hair. The new brushes don’t get wound up with pet hair like the old ones did as well. A big improvement overall.

It cleans the floors well and goes back to the charging station. I just need to remember to get up all the cords off the floor. Great product for the money

First of all this is exactly same as Roomba i3 EVO with two exceptions. It has a 20% bigger battery. 2210mAh instead of 1800mAh for i3 EVO. Includes a virtual wall device and 2 extra filters. Virtual wall can be used to block Roomba from going to certain places.PROS:1. The vacuum part of the robot is pretty good. It’s dual roller design does a great job at vacuuming both carpets and hardwood floors. Prevents hair tangling to the roller. The hair get collected to the side of the roller. So it doesn’t reduce its performance. You also regularly need to clean the rollers. This is the main reason I am still keeping it.2. Genuine Parts are readily available. Albeit a bit expensive.3. Build quality is really good.4. Manages to get the job done most of the time.CONS:1. Phone app needs improvement. 1.1 Clean Maps don’t load in cleaning history mode. Sometimes for the same job, they work and other times they don’t load. This shows that the maps are stored on the servers and they have issue in loading them. This has been a known issue for a long time and hopefully will get fixed. 1.2. There is no way to cancel a job in the App once it is started. You can only pause it. When you do that the Roomba just stops in place. There is no way to tell it to just go back home. You have either hit the physical home button on the robot or manual carry it to it’s base station. 1.3. You can’t save multiple maps in Smart Maps section. If you have a multi level house the mapping feature is useless.2. Small battery compared to competitors. It has 2210mAh battery. Which gives a roughly 100 min runtime when new. If you have a large house it has to charge in the middle if cleaning run. It can take couple of hours to charge. This can significantly increase the time to finish a job. Combine that with a very inefficient navigation algorithm and it’s a double whammy.3. Small dust filter. It clogs up quickly and you need to tap it or vacuum the filter using a regular home vacuum to extend its life. The filters are expensive at $10 each.4. Inefficient navigation. IRobot doesn’t use LiDAR to map the room. This particular model just bumps around the room to feed it’s mapping and Navigation software. No matter how smart their software is, lack of laser sensors makes very inefficient. Even after it creates the map it just bumps and bangs everything to find its way. This also means it takes longer to complete the job than a robot with LiDAR sensors. Even on their higher end models they just rely of cheap cameras to help with navigation. All the Chinese brands have LiDAR and do a much better at navigation and mapping. Some of these issues are just software restrictions or bugs and can be resolved. Others are fundamental design issues. It’s sad to see the pioneer of robovacs over taken by the competitors. If iRobot doesn’t get their act together quickly they will be out of business.

Years ago we were among the first to but a robot vacuum. A Roomba. We were surprised how quickly we appreciated it. It was much more than a novelty. As years went by we tried other brands that did the job but didn’t seem to be as smart. Recently we bought this new Roomba and we love it. Technology has improved impressively. The vacuum does a great job. Super efficient. Not loud. Long running time. And learns quickly. Roomba is the best!
